It's not all Rainbows and Butterflies

It is so easy for us to forget that God will provide. Whether that be with grades, work, health, our needs, or desires. We fear that God doesn’t know what He’s doing and that we won’t get what we need. But I think that’s because it is easy for us to forget all the power that God has. He created the universe and everything in it. And not only did He create everything but He has given us the power to choose for ourselves the actions that we take. It takes a very powerful being to distribute that much power. That’s what God has done; as much as He loves us He wants us to choose for ourselves the actions that we take part in. He will guide us through them, and He will ultimately work everything for our good, but we do get the power to choose.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Sometimes I think the thing I fear the most is the process that God is putting me through to get to where He wants me to be. I know that everything will turn out good in the end, but what will I have to endure or push through in order to get there. We often expect, “the good of those who love him” to mean that everything in our life will be good, we won’t have hard times, we won’t be sad. But that’s the thing, God doesn’t promise that it will be easy. He doesn’t promise that the journey to the destination will be all rainbows and butterflies, but He does promise that we, who believe in Him, will have the best ending possible. We will get through this earthly life and we will receive the gift of eternal life.

John 16:33 “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you’ll have trouble, but take heart—I’ve overcome the world!”

Just like us Jesus Christ, walked the earth. He went through life not knowing what would happen next but glorifying God at all times. He didn’t have it easy. He was mocked, beaten, suffered and died on the cross before He got to experience the rainbows and butterflies. But the crazy thing is, is that He didn’t HAVE to go through all of that. He could have never come down to earth. He could have never been mocked, beaten, or died a gruesome death, but He did because of His love for us. He did it because after all of that pain and anguish was over, not only would He have a perfect ending but WE would have a perfect ending with Him eternally in heaven.

No matter what choices we make in our lives, God will see us through to the end. He will protect us, guide us, and deliver us from all harm and danger. That doesn’t mean that we won’t have tough times, we definitely will. But it means that no matter what we go through, as long as we keep our eyes on Christ, we will live with him forever in heaven. That’s the promise of the rainbow, so while it might not all be rainbows and butterflies on this earth, in heaven it will be.

Genesis 9:13-16 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
